Finally

So if you all haven't heard by now the voice actors have signed with Fox so now I can go back to work. As I mentioned they were making around $360,000 an episode and now with their new deal they'll be making $400,000 an episode. It's not the 500k they were asking for but the good news is that they signed a 4 year contract so you can expect at least another 4 years of The Simpsons. I'm just glad to be going back to my regular every day job. On another note my favorite comic series Scud: The Disposable Assassin is finally back to finish out the series after a 10 year hiatus. You can see my fan art here...[link]
I've been waiting the whole 10 years to see what happens and for a while I thought Rob Scrab would never go back to it. I can't wait to see what happens and if you haven't checked it out you need to do it NOW because Scud is such an inspirational book, at least for me, with it's totally surreal story and characters and the art work is simply amazing.
My girlfriend :iconmkanahashi: just moved into her awesome new condo and will be starting school soon so everyone wish her luck. I love you hun and I'm so proud of you mwah!
Anyway that's it for now, see you all in the movies er, tv!

Just a little update

Journal Entry: Fri May 30, 2008, 6:38 PM
Hey hey everyone hope you all are well. Just thought I would fill you all in on what's going on with me and the industry. The voice actors for The Simpsons are still in negotiations with Fox for their new contracts. What they want is instead of making $376,000 an episode they want $500,000 an episode, which is more than reasonable because 300,00 an episode is just not enough. How on earth are they going to pay for those 5 extra cars to fit in their 10 car garage that's attached to their mansions? Of course what does that mean for me and the rest of the crew? Well we get to sit on our hands and wait until they can come to an agreement because if there's no voices for the shows then there's no work. Here's the best part guess how much of a pay raise I'll get if the actors get their way? Zero. That's right we won't see an extra dime and on top of that there's still the rumor that the Screen Actors Guild, which the voice actors are a part of, might strike because all the actors in hollywood feel that their multi-million dollar salaries aren't cuttin' it anymore. Basically they want the same deal as the writers; if you haven't seen the South Park episode from this season that touches on the writers strike you need to watch it NOW because they do an incredible job in describing how ridiculous everyone is being.
Anyway, all this free time has let me do some things I haven't gotten to do in a while, such as my own animation test's, more time with my girlfriend :iconmkanahashi: and play more poker. But golly I do miss that paycheck, oh well, some day I'll rise up and take back this industry for all of us extremely hard working artists. Until then keep watching the ski's, I mean skies.

Back Home

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 28, 2008, 10:19 PM
Hey everyone so I'm back in the states after being gone a month and a half. I was traveling around Philippines and Japan with my girlfriend :iconmkanahashi: and we both had a great time. I also got to show her around town here as well as give her a tour of the studio. I miss her like crazy though but I guess that's what comes with a long distance relationship. But hey it's worth it! Anyway things are kind of slow at the studio, speaking of which. The few shows that got held over from the strike are just finishing up so the writers are busy writing revisions. There should be some new work coming in the next couple weeks then it'll get super busy. The Simpsons aren't going anywhere soon so I still have a job... for now. Right now I'm doing a little bit of free lance and getting back into poker. Just getting my bearings back after being away from it for so long. I want to post some new stuff so be sure to check back soon!

It's almost April, time for a rant

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 28, 2008, 8:56 AM
For the past month I've been with my girlfriend :iconmkanahashi: We've just been relaxing and enjoying each other's company and it's been great. One day we were watching tv and we both noticed how few good cartoons there are any more so I thought I would vent my frustration and hopefully you all agree with me...
Here in the Philippines there is a show called "Growing Up Creepie" which you can read about here..[link]
What really erks me is the overall look of the show. It seems like studios such as Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network are doing away with creativity and substance for a more "stylized" approach. Now I don't mean that in a good way because the Creepie show is just plain disgusting. It's done in flash and the character designs make me sick. Same goes for The X's on Nick, it's so stylized that you can't watch it without hurting your eyes. It wouldn't be so bad if the show was interesting or clever but it's just dumb. It seems like creators are getting more and more lazy, that or they just don't care anymore. Everything looks the same, it's all super flat with a thick outline I can't stand it anymore. As illustrations they're great but not as animated cartoons. What happened to the good 'ol days? What happened to giving the illusion of weight and depth to our characters? What happened to drawing techniques in general? Yeah this is just my opinion but when I was a kid and turned on the tv I was excited, now I stay away from today's cartoon shows altogether. I think we need to stop experimenting with the future and learn from the past otherwise cartoons are going to become so flat we can't see them anymore.

School's Out

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 6, 2008, 11:23 PM
Well as of two weeks ago I'm out of work. It's a combination of hiatus time and the writers strike. Usually I have hiatus but not this early so the strike has forced the studio to shut down a few months early. Which is ok and not ok for me. It's ok because I kind of needed a break, I've been working every week since march 24th '06 so a little time off is good. Plus this time off gives me lots of time to work on my poker skills, to which I am an avid player. I'm more of a tournament player then sit-n-go's and I've been playing in various tournaments at the Bicycle Casino in LA. Actually I won a midnight game the other night which was awesome. The break is bad because I'm not getting a steady stream of income.
In addition I get to do a lot of traveling namely with my girlfriend. We're going to be going to Tokyo at the end of march and we're going to be spending a lot of time in the Phillippines and here in California. I'm really looking forward to Tokyo because I've always wanted to see Japan, plus i'll be with my girl hehe. So I hope the lot of you aren't too affected by the strike like many of us, and remember, practice practice practice!
