My Homerz by Morpheus306 My Homerz by Morpheus306
These are some sketches that I've been doin just for fun. After my experience drawing Homer the "right" way for the show, I thought it would be fun to draw him "my" way. It's actually a lot of fun drawing him without worrying about being "on model" and just making fun drawings. Why am I using so many "quotations?" Anyway, these were done using prisma color pencils on newsprint. Oh and yes I plan on making sketches of the other characters too. Enjoy!

"The Simpsons" belongs to Matt Groening

Oh my god, the Simpsons look awesome in your style! I truly want to see it like this, it has so much more character and life in them. It was really enjoying seeing each character of the cast like this, I went and looked for them all. Great work and nice animation and art you got.
You better have your own cartoon company one day, I wand to see more cartoons looking like this!

Another cartoon who deserve the same treatment is Family Guy: the animation suck so much! If your not to busy, that would be great to see!

I bet if the Tracey Ullman shorts had kept going for a couple more years, they'd have looked a lot like this. :D

It really ids a shame the series doesn't look like they did back in the 80's, early 90's anymore. This is awesome artwork and they look like real cartoons. Not the stuff cartoon syndrome like Family Guy or American Dad. Great job dude. By the way I've ordered some prisma colored pencils. Can't wait to try them out. They look awesome!

I really think you should do a opening for The Simpsons. The one that was recently made by John K. is not that cool, your designs are better :D

I love your wild take on the Groening style, which I loved already to begin with!

I have to go with the minority of people here and say that while this style is definitely more fun to look at, the on-model style of the real show just fits better with it's sitcom theme. Plus, I'm with :iconquestionthemajority: in thinking that the Simpsons haven't hit rock bottom. It's still funny, but it's just vastly different from how it first started. However, there are a few current ideas the writers have these days that have me raising eyebrows. (I'm probably NEVER getting used to the idea of Krabapple and Flanders together)

Looking at all of the comments, I have to again state as I so often do that I still think the Simpsons is just as funny as ever. I don't know why it gets all the hate it does.

You know I think I'd watch The Simpsons alot more if the animation was this "floppy" and "bouncy", if you will. :)

Someone once told me why the show couldn't be as fluid and fun as this. Something about being strictly on model is less expensive or lose the familiarity?
Morpheus306 Featured By Owner Sep 18, 2011  Professional Filmographer
I guess it's a combination of a lot of things. DWebArt said it best I think, the show was never really meant to be "wacky." It's a family sitcom that just happens to be animated. But yes on the show we were constantly hounded with "on model" all the time.

I love these.

But I feel, as a long time Simpsons fan, I must address some of my fellow commenters who are hating on the style of the show.
The Simpsons wasnt conceived to be a super elastic "cartoon", it was conceived to be an animated family. The show was originally supposed to be less about cartoony antics, and more about typical family drama. Its why if you watch the first seasons, the stories were very down to earth compared to newer seasons, and dealt with issues not usually dealt with in animation. The designs were also originated with Matt, who has for a long time said his goal was to make recognizable characters with as few lines as possible, which gives the show its iconic look.

Brillant! Just Brillant. These sketches look like the early Tracy Ulman shorts if they were a bit more on model.

nice take on homer, definitly your style but clearly represents the character. i'd be interesting in seeing this style animated, if even just a quick rough.

Actually, it's 1/3 of a Treehouse of Horror episode, so it won't be very long. Even still.....sounds scary?

YES. YES. And YES again.

I don't care what anyone thinks; Season 1's animation, compared to the current 290th season, ROCKS. The "reaction take" is a huge plus here :D
real-faker Featured By Owner Sep 16, 2011  Student Filmographer
You know, I've been dying to see you draw these characters your way for awhile man. I could go on a whole rant about how stiff the show has gotten compared to the old Klasky Csupo stuff but I'm sure you know all too well about that. Seriously though, have you seen the deleted scenes from "Some Enchanted Eventing"? I took a bunch of screengrabs from them and saved them in a folder on my computer titled "INSPIRATION". Haha... so good man. Anyway, I won't go on that whole rant. I'll just leave you with my extreme gratitude. Thankyouuuuuuu. :)
Quacksquared Featured By Owner Sep 16, 2011
This reminds me of the old old Simpsons from the first season, where they are less stiff and more like a cartoon.
CatsTuxedo Featured By Owner Sep 16, 2011  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Now this is what I'm talking about! :) These are so much more lively and, well, animated than what the show could ever achieve.
dodgyrommer Featured By Owner Sep 16, 2011  Student Digital Artist
I think I would actually watch the Simpson's if the characters were drawn like this.
dodgyrommer Featured By Owner Sep 16, 2011  Student Digital Artist
Well.. watch again* because the earlier eps were indeed looser.
